Venue and accommodation

NWAV AP3 will be held in Rutherford House on the Pipitea Campus of Victoria University of Wellington. Rutherford House is centrally located near the harbour. It is a fully accessible building. The conference dinner on Friday 2 May will be held at the Wharewaka, which is an easy walk along the harbour from Rutherford House.

NWAV-AP3 has negotiated a special conference rate for accommodation in the Rydges hotel. Rydges is less than five minutes walk to the conference venue. The hotel have set up a special booking page which will allow you to access the conference rates. Please use the following link if you would like to book at Rydges.

There are numerous other accommodation options in central Wellington, ranging from backpackers hostels, to B&Bs and the usual international chains of mid-range hotels, boutique hotels, and high end accommodation. In addition, there are some apartment hotel options (such as the Quest chain). New Zealand accommodation distinguishes hotels and motels – a motel usually includes a small kitchen, but is likely to be further out of town and they assume you will have a vehicle for transport. If you are looking for alternative accommodation, many Wellington hotels are listed and (self- or user-) rated on www.wotif.co.nz.

There are a number of options for getting from the airport into Wellington city. The Airport Flyer bus is an express service that runs approximately every 10 minutes from outside the terminal building to the city centre, for NZ$9 one way. The stop on the corner of Lambton Quay/Molesworth St is 2 minutes from Rutherford House, and less than 5 minutes from Rydges Hotel. Alternatively, there are shuttles or taxis. A shared Super Shuttle is more economical if you're travelling alone, at around NZ$18 per person one way; while a taxi can be better if you're in a group, at around NZ$25 per taxi one way (Wellington Combined and Green Cabs go from the airport).

Within the city, almost all buses go along the 'spine' that runs from the Railway Station (next to Rutherford House), along Lambton Quay and Willis St to Cuba St and Courtenay Place. So to get from the conference venue to Cuba St and Courtenay Place, where the concentration of restaurants and night spots are, simply hop on any bus and confirm with the driver that they go to that end of town; return via the same route. More information about the public bus system in Wellington can be found on the Metlink website.
