By plane
Wellington International Airport has direct connectivity to the rest of New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji, across various airlines. Domestic air services are regular and fast, especially between Auckland and Christchurch international airports. Travel times between these are usually around an hour.
By ferry
There are regular ferry services between the North and South Islands, travelling between Wellington and Picton. The 3.5-hour journey takes you through the picturesque Marlborough Sounds, and you can sail with either Interislander or Bluebridge.
If you'd like to do a road trip around the country, you can simply drive on and off the ferry from the Wellington port, which is a ten-minute drive from the central city.
By car
If you decide to drive across New Zealand, Wellington is connected to two of the country’s major state highways, SH1 and SH2. Take this time to really explore the whole of Aotearoa, New Zealand!
When to visit us
Our summer months are in December, January, and February. Winter is in June, July, and August. The best times to visit are during our summer months but you are more than welcome to visit at any time throughout the year.
