International Scholarships update

Find out what the new international scholarships means for you.

The introduction of the two new scholarships—the VUW Undergraduate International Scholarship and the VUW Postgraduate International Scholarship—has combined a few of our past scholarships into the one, making it an easier and more seamless experience for our international students.

Find out what has changed and what this might mean for you.

Students who have already submitted an application or already hold an Offer of Place

If you are eligible and have applied for or been admitted into a programme in Trimester 3, 2025 or anytime in 2026, you will receive one of the new scholarships automatically, depending on if you are studying for a Bachelor’s, a Postgraduate Diploma, or a Master’s.

Our Admissions team will notify you directly and send you an updated Offer of Place if needed.

Deferring from one intake to another

You can apply to defer the scholarship to another intake in the same calendar year. You may not defer it to a different year.

Students who are currently enrolled

Unfortunately, you will not be eligible for these scholarships as only new students starting their study at Victoria University of Wellington will be eligible.

Previously offered international scholarships

Some scholarships like the Tongarewa International Scholarship, the Latin American Academic Achievement Scholarship, the International Alumni Fees Waiver, and the New Zealand International School-Leaver Grant will not be offered from 2026 onwards. More information on the other existing scholarships will be displayed here when available.

Students who have an existing international scholarship for Trimester 3, 2025

You may be eligible to receive both the new scholarship for your study level and the other awarded scholarship (including the Tongarewa International Scholarship, the Latin American Academic Achievement Scholarship, and the International Alumni Fees Waiver, among others). Please contact the International Office for more information.

Combining scholarships

These new scholarships may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, as long as this is permitted within the regulations of the other scholarship(s).
