The New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre (NZCCRC) and the Centre for Strategic Studies (CSS) jointly hosted a delegation from the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) on Wednesday 19 July. Dr Su Ge, President of CIIS was joined by Liu Qing, Director of the Department for Asia-Pacific Security and Cooperation studies at CIIS and Sun Wenzhu, Assistant Research Fellow for CIIS. Dr Su led the Chinese delegation in a dialogue with academics affiliated with both the NZCCRC and CSS.

The roundtable provided an opportunity for scholars to have discussions on a range of issues relevant to the Asia Pacific Region. Topics discussed include the security outlook for the Asia Pacific, the Belt and Road Initiative, the regional economy and New Zealand-China relations. The dialogue led to greater understanding of the policy positions and objectives of each country in the region, highlighted common regional challenges, and discussed the potential for furthering regional cooperation in the Asia Pacific.
