China Centre launches new report on NZ-China relations in Canberra

A new report on NZ-China relations put together by the China Research Centre was formally launched by Former Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr and the Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) launched a new report on NZ-China relations at the Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW) on the 14th of July.

The launch included introductory comments by Director of ACRI, Bob Carr and Tony Browne, Executive Chair of the China Research Centre, followed by panel discussion with Jim Rolfe, Centre for Strategic Studies, the Director of the China Research Centre, Professor Bo Zhiyue and research fellow Jason Young.

The audience compiled members of the diplomatic corps from New Zealand, China and the United States, members of ACRI and CIW as well as Australian policymakers and scholars at the Australian National University.

The report was commissioned by the Australia-China Relations Institute with the aim of illuminating New Zealand’s China policy to provide some comparison for commentators in Australia.

The reports findings demonstrate how New Zealand has approached China with coherent, proactive and pragmatic policy and show the development of New Zealand’s relationship toward the recently announced comprehensive strategic partnership.
