Xiamen University establishes New Zealand Research Centre

Xiamen University has been making great efforts in its internationalization. The establishment of the NZ Research Centre at Xiamen University is a significant event in the relations of Xiamen University with Victoria University of Wellington. The Centre will play an important role in Xiamen University's international collaboration and exchange with New Zealand universities and the friendly relationship between Xiamen and Wellington, remarked Professor WU Daguang, Vice President of Xiamen University at the opening of the New Zealand Research Centre of Xiamen University on 26 March 2010.

Professor Neil Quigley, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington and Professor Xiaoming Huang, Director of the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre were at the opening ceremony. Professor Quigley congratulated the efforts by Xiamen University in the establishment of the NZ Centre and said Victoria University and the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre will continue to work with colleagues at Xiamen University to make the NZ Centre at Xiamen University an important centre for study of contemporary New Zealand in China. Professor Quigley presented to Professor Wu the books donated by Victoria University to the NZ Centre.

The New Zealand Research Centre of Xiamen University was established in December 2009 as part of the partnership and collaboration between Victoria University of Wellington and Xiamen University. It aims to become a national research centre in China on New Zealand with a focus on contemporary social sciences issues.
