FMCG conference draws international scholars
Over 130 people gathered from around the world to hear internationally-renowned speakers at Victoria Business School for the eighth annual Financial Markets and Corporate Governance (FMCG) Conference in April.
The eighth annual Financial Markets and Corporate Governance (FMCG) Conference was the first conference to be held at the newly redeveloped Rutherford House, and has been hailed by conference organisers and attendees alike as a resounding success.
The line-up of keynote speakers comprised of Professors Renée Adams (University of New South Wales), Peter Clarkson (University of Queensland), Richard Roll (California Institute of Technology), and Katherine Schipper (Duke University).
Attendees of the two-day conference were treated to 92 presentations of papers by academics working across 13 countries, on topics ranging from financial reporting, capital markets, corporate finance, investments and corporate governance.
In addition, 30 PhD students presented their thesis proposal during a day-long PhD Symposium, which provided the opportunity to receive expert feedback on their academic work.
Conference co-convenor and director of the Centre for Accounting, Governance and Taxation Research, Professor Tony van Zijl, says it was "the most successful FMCG conference to date".
"This can be attributed to the combination of the four outstanding keynote speakers attracting a record number of delegates and a dedicated management team that designed a stimulating technical programme and delivered a superbly organised conference."
It is the second time Victoria Business School has hosted the conference, which was held for the first three years at Melbourne's La Trobe University.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Commerce Professor Bob Buckle said the venue proved an "outstanding success, with many very positive comments from delegates who came from many parts of the world".
The conference was also co-convened by Professor Ian Eggleton (School of Accounting and Commercial Law) and Associate Professor Jack Robles (School of Economics and Finance).
