Event marks continued support for Don Trow Visiting Fellowship

Wellington City Council has confirmed its ongoing support of the Don Trow Fellowship, which enables high standing researchers to visit Victoria Business School.

Don TrowThe School of Accounting and Commercial Law (SACL) and the Centre for Accounting, Governance and Taxation Research (CAGTR) recently hosted an event to recognise the ongoing collaboration with the Wellington City Council on the Don Trow Visiting Fellowship.

The fellowship was established to mark Professor Don Trow's retirement from the University after an illustrious career, in recognition of his wide ranging achievements and the respect in which he was held by so many of his colleagues, peers and past and present students.

The Wellington City Council has supported the initiative since the first Fellow visited the university in 2005, and have confirmed they will continue to do so until 2021.

Professor Bob Buckle, outgoing Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Victoria Business School, acknowledged the significance of the Fellowship to the Commerce Faculty.

"Since its inception in 2003, the Don Trow Visiting Fellowship has enabled high standing researchers to visit Victoria Business School, and with the support of the Centre for Accounting and Governance Research they undertake valuable accounting research and engagement to benefit our staff, students and communities of interest.

"The generous ongoing contributions from the Wellington City Council and support of earlier donors provides a valuable opportunity to invite leading international researchers to benefit the local, national and international business and professional communities."

Andy Matthews, Chief Financial Officer at the Council, is enthusiastic about this collaboration.

"It is so important for the Council to have been involved with this Fellowship for so many years, and it is an opportunity for us to collaborate with the University and to ensure that research excellence, in the form of the Fellows who visit Wellington each year, permeates not only our organisation or the University, but also the city."

Other organisations that supported the Fellowship in the initial years include Fonterra, New Zealand Post, Spark (then Telecom), Westpac and the School of Accounting and Commercial Law.

The event was attended by members of the Advisory Boards of SACL and CAGTR, along with Professor Don Trow and other members of staff and the Victoria University Foundation, whose support enables this fellowship.
