Making changes to your exchange

To apply for an extension of your exchange length, email student-exchange@vuw.ac.nz and check if you are eligible. The Wellington Global Exchange office might not have available exchange places at your host university due to high demand.

The deadline to apply for an extension of your exchange is 8 weeks from the start of your classes at the host university.

Things to consider if you wish to extend:

Budget – Can your funds stretch to another semester away?

Courses – Are there more courses that you can study on exchange that can be credited towards your degree?

Accommodation – Can you extend the lease period where you are now? Or do you have to find a new place to live?

Flights – Can you easily change the date of your flights or do you need to buy new tickets?

Family – Have you discussed your plans with your family?

Applying to study at a second exchange destination

The deadline to apply to go to a second exchange destination is:

1st Dec for exchanges in Tri 2 the following year

10th July for exchanges in Tri 1 the following year

You can apply to go to a second exchange destination while on exchange, as long as you apply by the deadline. Your application will be considered during our selection process along with other candidates after applications close. You will not be required to attend an interview.
