Profile
I have been teaching and coordinating STAT 193 since we redesigned the course in 2017. I also teach in ENGR121, ENGR 123, MATH 142 and STAT 391/DATA 491.
Before moving to Victoria University of Wellington/Te Herenga Waka, I was working at the University of Canterbury and the University of Canterbury International College, as well as tutoring high school students in NCEA mathematics and statistics. The textbook that I co-wrote with David Barton, Essential Maths and Stats for Higher Education, is a recommended text for foundation maths courses in Aotearoa and the Pacific, including MATH 132 and MATH 141 at THW/VUW.
I also worked for many years as a professional musician (French horn) in orchestras in the UK and New Zealand.
In 2021 I received a THW/VUW Teaching Excellence Award and in 2022 the Ako Aotearoa Te Whatu Kairangi Tertiary Educator Award.
