    To say 2020 was a challenging year, full of unexpected ups and downs, is an understatement. COVID-19 and lockdowns forced us to adapt to new ways of working and pushed many of us to quickly up-skill in technology to make remote connection and collaboration easier.

    Derek Kawiti, Senior Lecturer at the Wellington School of Architecture, has 3D printed a full-size replica of a 230-year-old Hawaiian wa'a (outrigger canoe). Working from 3D scans provided by the Smithsonian, where the original wa'a (the oldest Hawaiian wa'a in the world) lives. Derek's groundbreaking project aims to explore what 3D-printing could mean for the future of waka carving.
