School of Design Innovation studios

The School of Design Innovation has a range of studios and labs including Windows CAD/Design computing and Apple iMac workstations, and other facilities.

Students in their first year studying Architecture or Design share a large studio on level one of the Wigan Street building. Hours for students are allocated as per the University teaching timetable. After normal hours students can use the studio to do course work, complete projects, and work on assignments.

Media Design and Animation and Visual Effects lab

Nicknamed the media lab (WG401) is used by Media Design and Animation and Visual Effects students. It comprises a large computer lab with 27” iMacs, electronic physical computer workshop, large projection equipment, and VR equipment.

Students have access to the Media Render Grid for local in-house high speed rendering.

Communications and Interaction Design lab

Nicknamed the Comms Design lab (VS201) is used by the Interaction Design, and Communications Design programmes. It is a large computer lab with 27” iMacs, Wacom Pro and Wacom Cintiq drawing tablets, data projection and LCD equipment, and document scanners/ printers.

Students have access to the Media Render Grid for local in-house high speed rendering.

Industrial Design and Design for Social Innovation studio

This studio (WG301) is used by the Industrial Design and Design for Social Innovation programs. Students share spaces on level 3 Wigan (WG301) comprising of a largely Industrial Design modelling space, seminar space, a CAD/Design Computer lab, and a 3D Printing Lab.

Postgraduate lab

Fourth and fifth year students from the various School of Design Innovation programs share a space on Wigan level 2 (WG201). Thesis students each have individual workspaces and a CAD/Design workstation.

Media Design IT office

The Media Design IT staff are responsible for all Apple equipment. They can be found in WG403.
