A tool for improving the practice of stakeholder management in BPM projects

Zoom:  https://vuw.zoom.us/j/94189177687

Business process (BP) design projects often have many stakeholders who need to engage with the project in different ways. Although there is a considerable body of knowledge about stakeholder theory, there have been limited studies that examine the unique circumstances of BP projects. Anecdotally, stakeholder management on BPM projects remains a serious issue despite the extant body of knowledge about stakeholder management strategies. This presentation builds on a previous work presented at the BPM 2020 and 2021 conferences where Abbott and colleagues developed a taxonomy of stakeholder roles and factors influencing stakeholder engagement. The author team was suggested by the editorial team at the BISE (Business & Information Systems Engineering) journal to develop and test a tool that operationalized the model. This presentation is a “work-in-progress” report on this design science research (DSR) project. We will describe the goals of the project, and the tool development approach. We will present the artifact and describe the evaluation process we are intending to follow.

We are actively seeking feedback on any aspect of the tool and our intended evaluation approach. We are also interested in people with BPM knowledge who are prepared to be involved as research participants. This presentation will be of particular interest to anyone involved in teaching, researching, or practicing BPM, and to anyone conducting DSR.
