FHSS dominates Wellington Theatre Award nominations

Congratulations to all students, staff, and alumni who are nominated, or worked on productions nominated, for the 2019 Wellington Theatre Awards.

Staff, students, or alumni received nominations in every category except one. Theatre programme staff and alumni dominated the nominees list for Director of the Year (four out of five), New NZ Play (four out of five), while New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī alumni earned three out of four nominations for Sound Designer.

Theatre programme staff Associate Professor David O’Donnell and Dr Lori Leigh are among the nominees for Director of the Year for their Wellington Summer Shakespeare production of Hamlet. The production has also earned alumnus Lucas Neal a nomination for Set Designer, and alumni Mitch Tawhi Thomas and Stevie Hancox-Monk nominations for Outstanding Performances. Theatre Programme Technician Sam Tippet is nominated for Most Promising Newcomer for her work as stage manager for both Hamlet and Ransom.

The award ceremony will be held at Shed 6 on Sunday 8 December.
