The Confucius Institute at Victoria University of Wellington and TUMA mau taiaha mau rākau are launching our newly translated Chinese- anguage mau rākau guidebooks. Join us for the book launch to celebrate this unique cultural exchange.

Mau rākau, a traditional Māori martial art from Aotearoa New Zealand, has been passed down through generations to strengthen the hinengaro (mind), tinana (body), and wairua (spirit) of the people of this land.

Taking place at the start of New Zealand Chinese Language Week, this event offers a timely opportunity to celebrate the coming together of two rich cultural traditions through shared practice and exchange.

Programme highlights:

  • Author talk
  • Translator talk
  • Cultural exchange demonstrations of martial arts
  • Light refreshments.

Limited spaces. Registration is required. Register here by Friday 12 June or contact confucius-institute@vuw.ac.nz with any queries.
