FHSS staff and alumni among Wellington Theatre Award winners
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences staff and alumni have been recognised at the 2019 Wellington Theatre Awards at the ceremony on Sunday 8 December. The Wellington Theatre Awards annually celebrate the innovation, originality, and collaboration in the Wellington theatre community.
Three Theatre programme staff members were recognised: Dr Sean Coyle, scenography lecturer, was named Set Designer of the Year for Pakaru; tutor and alumna Dr Sally Richard’s TAHI: New Zealand Festival of Solo Performance won the George Webby Most Promising Newcomer Award; and theatre technician Sam Tippet won the Willem Wassenaar Most Promising Newcomer award for her work as stage manager in the productions of Hamlet and Ransom.

Jason Wright (Master of Musical Arts)—Sound Designer of the Year for The Clearing.
Abby Howells (Master of Arts in Creative Writing (Scriptwriting))—Peter Harcourt New Playwright of the Year for HarleQueen.
Mitch Tawhi Thomas (Bachelor of Arts)—Outstanding New NZ Play for Pakaru.
Madeline McNamara (Master of Theatre Arts)—Campion Accolade for Outstanding Performance for The Attitudes-Refusing Performance
Karin McCracken (Bachelor of Arts)—Michele Amas Accolade for Outstanding Performance for Yes Yes Yes.
Eleanor Bishop (Bachelor of Arts with Honours) and Karin McCracken (Bachelor of Arts)—The Excellence Award for Theatre for Social Change for Yes Yes Yes.
Jo Randerson (Master of Theatre Arts)—Director of the Year for Captain Cook Thinks Again, which also won the Absolutely Positively Most Original Production award.
