Victoria Classics in Melbourne

Vic Classics was once again a major presence at the annual meeting of the Australasian Society for Classical Studies, which met in Melbourne from the 2nd through the 5th of February 2016. Seven members of staff and one of our postgraduates delivered papers that ranged from Greek prehistory to classical reception in contemporary New Zealand and covered topics as diverse as material culture, ancient religion, the Athenian constitution, Greek and Latin literature, and film studies. In alphabetical order, these papers were:

  • Emily Simons, Majestic Monsters: Griffins in the Late Bronze Age Agean
  • Jeff Tatum, Why is Valerius Flaccus a Quindecimvir?
  • The 2017 meeting of ASCS will be hosted by Victoria University and will take place in Wellington.
