Shayle Searle Prize in Statistics

This prize is awarded to the best student in STAT 193.


This prize was established in 1998 by Dr Shayle R Searle through the US Friends of Victoria and the Victoria University of Wellington Foundation in appreciation of his 1950 Victoria University of Wellington MA in Mathematics having been of lasting value to his 1962 - 1995 career as Professor of Biological Statistics in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA.

The prize is awarded annually to the student who, in the opinion of the Head of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, is the best student taking STAT 193.

The value of the prize is determined by the Victoria University of Wellington Foundation after consideration of the income from the fund.

Recipients will be asked to write a letter of appreciation which will be forwarded to the donor's family (Dr Searle died in 2013.)
