Profile
Robin Averill is Adjunct Professor in Te Whānau o Ako Pai and Honorary Research Associate. With extensive background in primary and secondary school mathematics education teaching and research, Robin has taught in mathematics initial teacher education and at masters level, and now carries out education consultancy work and thesis supervision.
Robin serves as Chair and Panel member for Initial Teacher Education Programme Approval and Review for Matatū Aotearoa / Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand and has been an executive committee member of the Teacher Education Forum Aotearoa New Zealand (TEFANZ). Robin has served as Vice President (Research) and executive member of the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia, MERGA, and as the New Zealand representative on the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction, ICMI.
Robin has cowritten and coteaches two mathematics education micro-credentials for Kāpuhiphui Wellington Uni-Professional and is on the writing team for the annual national Maths Week / Wiki Pāngarau for primary and secondary schools.
Robin has held the roles of Associate Dean (Teacher Education), Mathematics Education Curriculum Leader, and Postgraduate Programme Director, and earlier worked in secondary school teaching, professional development facilitation, and national assessment and moderation.
Robin has published extensively, including authored and edited books on teaching and learning culturally sustaining for ākonga Māori and Pacific heritage learners, evidence-based primary and secondary school mathematics teaching, numerous research-based journal articles and book chapters, and mathematics teaching resource books
