Climate change and the environment

We're able to track changes in the environment and respond to climate change by applying data science and using artificial intelligence tools.

Monitoring changes in climate and making reliable models for natural disaster prediction is important both in New Zealand and internationally.

The main areas where artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques are being applied are:

  • climate modelling
  • weather forecasting for land and ocean
  • earthquake prediction
  • volcano and tsunami prediction
  • water surface level prediction.

The ability to predict environmental changes also helps us to manage threats to human lives and communities.
