Teaching training

Teaching and training are part of what we do at Te Ngāpara Centre for Restorative Practice, including workshops, training and microcredentials.

Micro-credentials

In partnership with Kāpuhipuhi Wellington Uni-Professional, we offer several micro-credentials, including:

  • Restorative Foundations: Health and Disability: developed with the Health Quality & Safety Commission and the National Collaborative for Restorative Initiatives in Health. Learn about the theory, values, and principles of restorative practices within the health system context and a Tiriti o Waitangi framework. Consider how restorative practice and hohou te rongopai (peacemaking from a Māori worldview) might be applied in your own health setting.
  • Restorative Responses: Health and Disability: developed with the Health Quality & Safety Commission and the National Collaborative for Restorative Initiatives in Health. Develop knowledge about the factors critical to the success of restorative responses (i.e. restorative practice and houhou te rongo--peacemaking from a Māori worldview). Understand and practice foundational skills, gain an appreciation of cultural safety, learn how to navigate cross-cultural responses and design a restorative response relevant to your own context.
  • Restorative Foundations: Justice: Restorative Practice (encompassing Restorative Justice) is increasingly recognised for its ability to resolve harms (or conflicts) that other resolution approaches cannot. It makes people’s needs central in repairing the harm done, restoring dignity and preventing further harm. By the end of this course you'll be able to identify and evaluate the origins, principles and purposes of Restorative Practice; evaluate and discuss the design, contemporary debates and uses of Restorative Practice; critically reflect on, and articulate, the design features, challenges, and uses or possible uses of Restorative Practice in your field.

Undergraduate course

A specialist elective on the Theory and Practice of Restorative Justice (CRIM330) is offered yearly through the Institute of Criminology at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington
