NZIRI Research Grants 2026

NZIRI invites applications for grants to support research projects related to India, India-New Zealand relations and the Indian diaspora.

Research themes

The topic of research should be related to any aspect of New Zealand foreign policy towards India, wider NZ Inc interests in India, the Indian diaspora in New Zealand, or any project that may help New Zealanders better understand India or benefit New Zealand-India relations. The projects can be grounded in any discipline or may use a cross-disciplinary methodology.

Each project should have a publication plan. Publication is not a requirement for PhD students, who should indicate the expected date of thesis submission.

Who can apply

Any academic staff member permanently employed at a New Zealand University, or PhD students currently enrolled at a New Zealand university, who have not submitted their thesis.

Value

The value of each grant will be NZD 5000.

Deadline

Applications should be submitted as an email, with all required documents, to India-Research@vuw.ac.nz by 30 September 2026.

Successful applicants will be notified by the end of October, and the grants will be set up in November 2026.
