Graduate Diploma of Teaching Programme - Primary

First half-year

10 February – Programme commences.

10 February – 12 February – Ngā Mihi: campus-based, block course (compulsory for all kaiako tauira).

09 March – 13 March – Professional Practice 1 (observation week): 1-week full-time placement in schools offering an overall introduction to a kura environment (not necessarily year-level specific)

06 April – 17 April – School holidays and Mid-tri programme break

04 May – 19 June – Professional practice 2: 7-week full-time placement in schools, preceded by two days in school (DIS) - In the week of 27 April (Thursday and Friday)

26 June – First half-year programme concludes

Second half-year

13 July – 21 August – Programme re-commences

24 August – 30 October – Professional practice 3: 8-week full-time placement in schools (school holiday break September 28 - 09 October), preceded by four days in school (2xDIS "each week") - In the weeks of 10 August and 17 August (Thursdays and Fridays)

02 November -  27 November - Programme Continues

30 November – 04 December – Wānanga Week: campus-based, block course (compulsory for all kaiako tauira)

04 December – Programme concludes

First half-year

2 February – Programme commences - Initial full week in school (Monday - Wednesday)

10 February – 13 February – Ngā Mihi: campus-based, block course (compulsory for all kaiako tauira).

16 February -  06 March - Typical weeks in school - 3 days in school/observation, relationship building; 1 day on campus; 1 day independent study

09 March – 13 March – Block teaching week on campus

16 March – 03 April –  Typical weeks in school - 3 days in school; 1 day on campus; 1 day independent study

06 April - 17 April – School holidays and Mid-tri programme break.

20 April - 01 May – Typical weeks in school - 3 days in school; 1 day on campus; 1 day independent study

04 May - 12 June – Professional practice 2: 6-week full-time placement in swap school

15 June - 19 June – Block teaching week on campus

22 June - 26 June – Independent study week

29 June - 10 July School holidays and University break (holiday for kaikao tauira)

Second half-year

13 July - 17 July – Block teaching week on campus (this is the second week of school holidays)
