Hayden Karaha
About
Kia ora, Ko Hayden ahau. I identify as a Māori, heterosexual, cisgendered male, and go by he/him pronouns. I grew up in Lower Hutt and am currently helping to grow two young tamariki here as well.
I have studied in a range of areas including health science and traditional Chinese medicine. Delving into these worlds along with life itself helped me determine that counselling was my calling and I went on to complete a Master's of Counselling. I have been working with the Student Counselling team since 2019 and am a provisional member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.
I believe counselling is all about building relationships and providing an environment where people can safely explore and unpack the challenges they are facing, as well as realise their innate strength and purpose in life. I work with several techniques and aim to collaborate with the client to determine which is the most relevant and workable.
In my spare time, I love to be out in nature, whether it be mountain biking, surfing, gardening, or tramping with my whānau. My self-care also involves a good deal of music, yoga, and meditation.
