Alumni Appeal Scholarship for Second Year Students

This scholarship is designed to support talented students to continue their studies at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington by removing financial barriers to study and success.
History
Alumni Appeal Scholarships are generously funded by alumni and friends of Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington who believe in the University’s mission to ensure talented young people are given the chance to fulfill their potential through a university education.
Each year, the University welcomes students from diverse backgrounds to enrol here. For many of these students and their families, the cost of their education may be out of reach. Each scholarship will support the aspirational achievements of students who are financially disadvantaged.
Who is eligible?
- Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents of at least two years' standing.
- Applicants are expected to have achieved a B average (5.0 GPA) in their first year of study.
- Applicants must be intending to enrol full time in their second year of an undergraduate study in the year following application at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington.
- Applicants with volunteering experience may receive preference.
- Applicants experiencing financial hardship may receive preference.
Selection criteria
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, equity, leadership, and commitment to community. Applicants must have completed one year of full-time study at the University.
Application process
A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Scholarship specific documentation
- A personal statement outlining how you meet the criteria for the scholarship and the potential impact the scholarship could have to your studies.
- Applicants must complete the financial section of the application and provide supporting documents.
- Applicants must provide a reference highlighting their character and aptitude (to be requested via the online application).
Selection process
The successful recipients will be selected by the University's Undergraduate Scholarship Committee in consultation with Student Finance.
Additional information
Recipients are expected to provide a thank you letter within two weeks of receiving the scholarship.
Scholarship recipients are seen as ambassadors for the University and may be asked to participate in promotional photos, videos, and events.
Conditions

- All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the recipient being fully enrolled in a full-year programme (full time will be at the level of points considered by Studylink as full time) within the stipulated criteria and tenure of the scholarship. No payment of the Scholarship will be made until this condition is met.
- The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
- The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
- Should the recipient withdraw from Victoria University of Wellington during the tenure of this scholarship or fail to achieve satisfactory progress, partial repayment of the Scholarship will normally be expected. Recipients must advise the Scholarships Office if they intend to withdraw.
- Recipients are expected to act as Ambassadors for Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and participate in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
- At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the application of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship may be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Scholarship.
