Alexander Crawford Scholarship
History
Founded by Alexander Crawford of Miramar, who in the year 1935 bequeathed to the Victoria University of Wellington the sum of $6,000 for the establishment of scholarships.
Who is eligible?
- Applicants must be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor's degree at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and are pursuing a full-time programme of study.
- Applicants must have been a resident of the Wellington city for at least three years prior to applying for the scholarship.
- Applicants must be experiencing financial hardship.
Selection criteria
- The scholarship shall be available each year to students who are enrolled in the final year of a first Bachelor's degree at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, and are pursuing a full-time programme of study. At least one of the scholarships will be available to a suitable student enrolled in a BSc, the other to a student either enrolled in a BA, LLB or BCom.
- Applicants must have been bona fide residents in the Wellington city for a period of at least three years prior to the granting of the scholarship. Attendance at a school beyond the Wellington city shall not necessarily disqualify an applicant, if the applicant is in other respects a bona fide Wellington resident.
- Applicants must also be experiencing financial hardship.
Application process
A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Scholarship specific documentation
- Applicants must complete the financial information section of the application.
- Applicants must write a personal statement discussing how they believe they merit the scholarship (including what makes them a bona fide Wellington resident).
Selection process
Selection will be made by the University Undergraduate Scholarships Committee, in consultation with Student Finance.
Additional information
The scholarship is tenable for one year and may not be held together with the Emily Lilias Johnston Scholarship.
Successful recipients will write a letter of thanks to the donor on receipt of the scholarship.
Conditions

- All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the recipient being fully enrolled in a full-year programme (full time will be at the level of points considered by Studylink as full time) within the stipulated criteria and tenure of the scholarship. No payment of the Scholarship will be made until this condition is met.
- The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
- The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
- Should the recipient withdraw from Victoria University of Wellington during the tenure of this scholarship or fail to achieve satisfactory progress, partial repayment of the Scholarship will normally be expected. Recipients must advise the Scholarships Office if they intend to withdraw.
- Recipients are expected to act as Ambassadors for Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and participate in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
- At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the application of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship may be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Scholarship.
