Jeya Wilson Prize

Information

This prize was established in 1999 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of what is now the School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations at Victoria University of Wellington. It arises from a donation by a former student of the School, Jeya Wilson.

Jeya received a Commonwealth Scholarship to Oxford University (where she obtained her doctorate), was President of the Oxford Union, and completed a dissertation on race relations in South Africa.

The prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Head of the School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations in consultation with the academic staff and Head of Programme in Political Science and International Relations.

The value of the prize, in any year, is determined after consideration of the income from the fund. If in any year the income from the fund or any part thereof is not expended, it may be added to the fund.

The name of the student awarded this Prize will be inscribed on the Honours Board at the premises of the Political Science and International Relations programme.

Award recipients will be asked to write a letter of thanks.
