F P Wilson Prizes in New Zealand History

Information

Founded by the late Professor Francis Prendeville Wilson, Professor of History from 1921-1934 who bequeathed his residuary estate for the establishment of prizes or scholarships to promote the study of the history of New Zealand.

1. The prizes shall be known as the F P Wilson Prizes in New Zealand History.

2. Two prizes may be awarded annually.
(a) One shall be an award to the student who is judged by the Head of the History Programme to have presented the best thesis for the degree of Master of Arts on a topic of New Zealand history and who is judged worthy of the award.
(b) The second shall be an award to the student enrolled in History at the 300 or Honours level who, in the opinion of the Head of the History Programme, has submitted the best essay on a topic of New Zealand history during the course of the year's study and who is judged worthy of the award.

3. The value of the prize in any year shall be determined after consideration of the income from the fund.

4. If in any year either or both prizes are not awarded, additional prizes may be awarded in the subsequent year.
