Beryl Hughes Prize in Women's Studies

This prize was established in 1986 from contributions given following the retirement of Mrs Beryl Hughes in December 1985. Mrs Hughes was a Senior Lecturer in History at Victoria University of Wellington.

The prize is awarded for the most outstanding undergraduate or honours essay presented in the area of women's studies in the year of the award. In any given year the prize may be shared between a maximum of two students.

The prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Head of School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations in consultation with the academic staff and Heads of Programme in the School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations.

The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks which will be forwarded appropriately.

The prize is awarded annually to a student in the School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations who has completed an undergraduate or postgraduate essay or thesis in the area of women's studies.
