SARC464 is an on-campus only course and is not available for distance study. This means all class sessions will be delivered in person at our Te Aro Campus.

Course learning objectives
Students who pass this course should be able to:
Explain the requirements for and the development of Building Codes.
Critically understand and assess the New Zealand Building Code.
Understand, in practical terms, the various methods for compliance with the Building Code.
Utilise technical skills and knowledge developed in other courses to critically assess creative, innovative and complex efficient design solutions that meet the New Zealand Building Code.
Produce coordinated documentation for complex building projects.
How this course is taught
SARC464 Lectures and tutorials require in-person attendance. Lecture recordings will be made available in Nuku for subsequent revision.
Teaching and learning in this course will be delivered through 2 x 1-hour lecture/tutorial sessions per week (details will be provided on Nuku).
Written material and associated readings will be made available on Nuku and you are expected to spend time to review these and comprehension of this and other material will be tested with online tests.
One of the weekly sessions (1-hour) will be lecture-based while the other (1-hour) a mixture of tutorial and lecture. See the course schedule on NUKU for more information.
There will be a field trip to BRANZ in lieu of one lecture and one tutorial session.
Tutorial and assignment briefing sessions are expected to be interactive and will mostly consist of lecturer-led discussion.
Assessment
- Individual Report (1,000-2,000 word annotated timeline). Mark: 35%
- Online Tests (30 mins in duration). Mark: 20%
- Individual Final Report (1,000-2,000 words). Mark: 45%
