Your degree is made up of courses (also known as ‘papers’ at other universities). Courses are taught over one trimester or sometimes two trimesters.
Each course is taught at a certain level. In your first year, you will normally take 100-level courses. 200- and 300- level courses are more advanced. Some degrees have core courses that all students have to complete.

How courses are labelled
Courses are identified by a four-letter subject code and a three-digit number. The four letters represent either a school or a subject. The first digit gives the course's level. For example, ACCY 130 and ACCY 131 are Accountancy courses that you would do in your first year.
The Course Reference Number (CRN) distinguishes between identical courses that are:
- taught in different trimesters—for example, in both Trimester 1 and Trimester 2
- taught in different modes—for example, in person and online
- taught in multiple streams in the same trimester.
