Visiting Scholars

Researchers of New Zealand society, history, or culture, are invited to apply to become Visiting Scholars at the Stout Research Centre.

Apply to become a visiting scholar

Applications are invited for researchers of New Zealand society, history or culture who are interested in becoming Visiting Scholars at the Stout Research Centre for New Zealand Studies, Victoria University of Wellington.

Visiting Scholars have access to a room and computer, and to university IT and library facilities. Proposals will be considered by the Stout Research Centre’s Research Committee on the basis of academic merit and their contribution to research on New Zealand society, history or culture. The maximum term for visiting scholars is six months. Those who wish to extend beyond six months must apply to the Centre with a renewed proposal; an extension will only be granted in exceptional circumstances.

Visiting Scholars are expected to contribute to the Stout Research Centre's ongoing public seminar series. They will need to acknowledge the support of the Stout Research Centre in any publications resulting from their tenure at the Stout, and must become a Friend of the Stout (Membership) at a cost of $50.00 per year.

Visiting Scholars are required to organise their own accommodation, and travel to and from the Stout. No car parking is available.

Scholars who hold funding grants from external institutions can apply for the title of Visiting Fellow.

If you would like to apply, please submit an application, including a short description of your research project and a CV, to the Director of the Stout Research Centre. The application should specify the beginning and end dates of your visit and whether there is any flexibility with these dates.

Applications should be emailed to: brigitte.bonisch-brednich@vuw.ac.nz
