Thinking about a research thesis Master's or PhD?

Research topic and supervision

Please be aware that due to the high number of applications we receive, admission to our programme without finding a supportive supervisor prior to submission is unlikely.

  1. Please explore staff profiles and research areas.
  2. Then send an email to a potential supervisor. This email should include your CV, your grade transcript and a 1-2-page outline of your proposed research topic. Do not contact more than two potential supervisors at the same time.
  3. If interested, your potential supervisor will reach out to you to get to know you via a call and to refine your topic.

Research Master's and PhD application process

You need to apply via the Faculty of Graduate Research.

Master's deadlines: Rolling

PhD deadlines: 1 March, 1 July, 1 November. Assessment takes approximately six weeks.

Funding and costs

For a PhD you should aim to secure substantial external funding. Scholarships are limited and competitive. International students cannot study part-time.

PhD admission criteria

  • GPA of 6 or higher in a qualifying degree.
  • Academic referee reports are required.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6)
