Front entrance of Student Union now open

The front entrance of the Student Union building has been made safe and is now open.

Engineers have been on site today and confirmed we are able to reopen both the main entrance to the Student Union building, and Adam Art Gallery.

Both Adam Art Gallery and VUWSA offices will reopen on Wednesday 29 April.

The fencing will be on site until it is removed by our contractors later in the week, but it will be placed in such a way that it does not restrict access to the buildings.

Thank you for your patience as we resolved this. While there will be further works necessary in time, our engineers have assured us that students and staff are now safe to use these entryways.

Friday 24 April

The engineer has been on site to assess the building, and we are working to make the roof structure safe.

The lift in the building is now operational to Level 3. While safeguarding is underway, the clubhouse and Adam Art Gallery will remain closed, and VUWSA have moved their services online.

The alternative routes to access the Student Union building are:

  • Level 1 off Hunter carpark is an alternative accessible route into Mauri Ora and other levels of the building
  • Level 2 from the back of the Student Union building, accessed via Hunter carpark OR from Mount Street entrance.

All lectures and events scheduled in the Memorial Theatre are going ahead, and the Hunter Lounge is open. Security is on site monitoring the area, and signage is in place.

Thank  you for continuing to respect the cordon and follow the recommended routes to navigate the campus. There will be an update on Tuesday 28 April.
