The latest QS results show Victoria University of Wellington rising to an overall rank of 215 equal (up from 221 in 2018), confirming its position in the top 2 percent of the world’s 18,000 universities.
The QS rankings improvement follows Victoria University of Wellington recently being ranked number one in New Zealand for research quality, in the Tertiary Education Commission’s latest Performance-Based Research Fund results. It is the only university to twice top the country’s main measure of research excellence.
In the 2019 QS rankings, the University has continued to improve its performance in the academic reputation indicator, which measures the reputation of institutions among international academics and accounts for 40 percent of the overall QS rankings score. The University is now in the top 1 percent of the world’s 18,000 universities for academic reputation.
Its reputation among employers is also improving, according to the latest results.
“These results are very pleasing,” says Vice-Chancellor Professor Grant Guilford, "and are a reflection of the outstanding capability of our academics and the quality of our research and teaching.
“They are also satisfying given increasing investment in universities worldwide—particularly in Asia—far exceeding that of New Zealand universities.”
