About

Elizabeth Knox is the award-winning and internationally acclaimed author of many novels, including The Vintner's Luck (Te Herenga Waka University Press NZ, Farrar, Straus and Giroux and Picador US, Chatto & Windus and Vintage UK, and eight translations), The Dreamhunter Duet (Harper Collins, FSG, Faber, and three translations), Black Oxen, (FSG, Vintage UK), Billie's Kiss and Daylight, (HarperCollins, Ballantine US, VUP), The Angel's Cut (Vintage UK, Harper Collins, VUP) Wake (VUP, Little Brown UK) and Mortal Fire (Gecko Press, FSG). Her most recent novel is The Absolute Book ((VUP 2019, Viking US and Michael Joseph UK 2021).

She has written a trilogy of autobiographical essays, The High Jump, and a collection of personal essays, The Love School, both published by VUP. With David Larsen Elizabeth edited an anthology of New Zealand SFF Monsters in the Garden (2020)

Her awards include the Deutz Medal for Fiction, the Tasmania Pacific Region Prize, the Esther Glen Award for New Zealand Children's Literature, Montana NZ Readers' and Booksellers' Choice awards, and an American Library Association Michael L. Printz Honor Award for Young Adult Literature. She has been an ICI Young Writers Bursary, a Scholarship in Letters, a Victoria University of Wellington Writing Fellow, a Katherine Mansfield Menton Fellow, and the Michael King Fellowship. Elizabeth was an inaugural recipient of an Arts Foundation Laureate Award in 2000. She was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2008, and progressed to a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2020.

Current projects

In 2021 Elizabeth has had a lot of digital gigs, including the Cheltenham and Edinburgh Literary Festivals. She has just completed a new Southland novel, Kings of This World.
