Dr Ewan Clark

Film scoring and orchestration

Ewan Clark is a film composer, orchestrator, film music scholar and lecturer. His film scoring achievements include the award-winning score for the feature film Turn of the Screw (2020), and the score for TVNZ's Doubt: The Scott Watson Case (2017). He has also scored numerous short films and documentaries, listed in full at www.ewanclarkmusic.com.

Ewan's orchestration credits include feature films Beyond the Edge (2013), One Thousand Ropes (2017), and The Inventor (2023), as well as the Netflix series Super Giant Robot Brothers (2022). Ewan has arranged songs for the NZSO's collaborations with Alien Weaponry (2021) and Ria Hall (2022) and the CSO’s collaboration with Tiki Taane (2021). In 2012 he arranged songs for the Philharmonia Orchestra's performance at Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. His composition Gethsemane (2000), has been performed by the CSO and Orchestra Wellington. As a scholar, Ewan wrote a book chapter about film composer Alexandre Desplat (also the subject of his PhD thesis) for Transmedia Directors (Bloomsbury, 2020).

Ewan studied at the Royal College of Music (MMus, 2012) and The New Zealand School of Music (PhD, 2018).
