The Wellington Te Wiki o te reo Māori Parade 2026

10 am – 2 pm Monday 14 September, Parliament

Celebrate Te Reo i te Wāhi Tangata and take te reo to the streets. Join Āwhina, Ngāi Tauira, and the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Māori and Kaitiakitanga) at Te Wiki o te reo Māori Parade. Starting at Parliament at 10 am, join them on the walk to Odlins Plaza. There will be performances and speeches, and the event finishes at 1.30 pm.

Rā Mākete is back and everyone’s invited! This event is a celebration of Māori enterprise, kaupapa, creativity, and culture. This year for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, each day of the week has a theme to guide our celebration of Te Reo Towns, and Thursday's theme is Te Reo Māori ki te HāporiTe Reo Māori in our Communities. Rā Mākete is a day for us to engage with and support our local businesses, artists, performers, and more.

This pub quiz is delivered entirely in te reo Māori. We will do our best to make the language accessible for those who have completed at least one year of immersion learning. For example having completed MAOR112, Te Pūtaketanga/Te Rōnakitanga, Heke Reo or similar. That being said, we want all those who love te reo Māori to be able to participate. If there is no one in your group who has the above familiarity with te reo Māori, let us know and we will do our best to find someone who can help translate when needed. Register here.
