Description

Trust, care, and the human future of higher education

How can universities create meaningful conditions for learning that will transform lives? From research on the nature of the PhD, to a national study of early career academic experiences, and recent international work on trust-centred university classrooms, Professor Kathryn Sutherland’s research focuses on how universities can nurture conditions in which both students and staff flourish.

In her inaugural lecture, Professor Sutherland will reflect on a two-decade career exploring what it means to work, teach, and learn in contemporary universities. She will argue for a future that prioritises holistic, values-based ways of teaching and learning, grounded in trust, care and reciprocity.
