Media Design alum, Will Barber is using the skills he gained studying at Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Design Innovation to create award-winning websites.

Following a three-month internship at Wellington brewery, Garage Project during his final year of study, Will took up the role of Digital Producer at the company after graduating.

“When I started at Garage Project they wanted to redevelop their website. They’re well known for their beers and the really on-point artwork that goes with them. There was an opportunity to develop a web experience that leveraged how central art was to the brand, and matched the quality of the beer they were producing.”

Will says the range of course options available to students in the Media Design programme has been invaluable.

“I graduated with a lot of knowledge about different elements of web and mobile platforms, and skills relevant across the whole process. That allowed me to take on a broader project like this one straight away.

“I had the opportunity to be involved in every step, from working with digital agencies to develop the art and concepts that would be engaging and true to the brand, to working on web functionality, through to content loading.”

The new website was nominated for, and won, a Webby Award in the shopping category. The Webby Awards is international competition that celebrates the best of the internet.
