Working Title

Modeling the surface mass balance of ice sheets using neural network approaches

Supervisors

Project objectives and description

Ice sheets are indicators of global temperature changes and the main contributors to sea-level rise. Accurate modeling of the Surface Mass Balance (the interplay between accumulation and ablation processes) is required to understand their evolution. This PhD thesis aims to focus on developing machine learning models to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of SMB calculations for ice sheets. By integrating satellite observations, climate reanalysis data, and physical principles into a neural network approach, this research aims to capture the spatial and temporal variability of SMB.
