Associate Professor Cassandra Brooks presents the annual S.T. Lee Lecture in Antarctic studies.

Cassandra Brooks is an Associate Professor in Environmental Studies and a Faculty Fellow with the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research at the University of Colorado, Boulder. An accomplished interdisciplinary scientist who works at the science-policy interface, her research focuses on understanding the ecological and social factors that contribute to successful marine conservation, with the last 20 years of her career focused on the Antarctic.

Dr Brooks was highly involved in the effort to designate the Ross Sea region marine protected area (MPA) and now leads the Ross Sea MPA Research Coordination Network. She is currently Chief Officer of SCAR’s Standing Committee on the Antarctic Treaty System, through which she brings science to inform policy at annual meetings of the Antarctic Treaty and CCAMLR. Dr. Brooks has published several hundred peer-reviewed articles, policy papers and popular media, received several prestigious awards and grants - including the Jackie Ronne Award and Explorer’s Club 50 honor - and has been recognized for her exceptional teaching and mentorship.
