This year, Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s AI and Library & Information Science subjects are ranked in the top 100 globally. The University’s Political Science and AI subjects are ranked number one among New Zealand universities.
In addition to these, the University shares New Zealand number one rankings with other institutions in three subjects—Library & Information Science, Law, and Computer Science and Engineering.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Professor Sally McArthur believes that the rankings reflect the University’s key strengths and strong international connections.
“Our teaching staff are thought leaders in their disciplines, and our international rankings are a clear recognition of the quality and relevance of the subjects that we offer. Our students have the opportunity to learn from academics who are experts in their respective fields— this goes a long way in preparing them for successful careers and enabling them to make positive contributions to society,” she says.
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is based on nine objective indicators grouped into five categories: World-Class Faculty, World-Class Research Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact, and International Collaboration.
Te Herenga Waka is the first university in New Zealand to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Artificial Intelligence. The University’s strong reputation in this field is driven by world-renowned researchers in engineering, combined with interdisciplinary insights and expertise from a humanities and social sciences perspective.
