Co-hosted by the Office of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor Pasifika and the Pasifika Students’ Council, the week highlights the richness and diversity of Pacific cultures and the shared histories that unite our peoples.
Tanumia Matega, Pasifika Students’ Council President, shares that “Pasifika Week is more than just one week—it’s a celebration of the beauty, diversity, and rich history of Pacific cultures. Our theme, Tides of Tomorrow, pays homage to our roots while looking ahead to a stronger future.”
Fabiefara Filo, Acting Assistant Vice-Chancellor Pasifika, adds “The Pacific region is vast, and this week honours the deep connections between our diverse communities. It is a celebration of our shared values, languages, stories, and the strength that comes from unity in diversity. Pasifika Week reflects the resilience, excellence, and mana of our students, staff, and extended community.”
Events include the Pasifika Cultural Night and official launch of the week and Wan Solwara (Pasifika edition of Salient magazine), a quiz night at Te Aro campus, a sports tournament, and the much-loved Pasifika Market, bringing Pacific food, crafts, and music to the heart of campus. A Climate Action talanoa will explore resilience and sustainability in the Pacific, and the week will conclude with the Pasifika Ball, a formal celebration of unity, identity, and excellence.
With over a dozen Pasifika student clubs on campus, Pasifika Week is a powerful reminder of the visibility, vitality, and future of Pacific students in higher education.
