Our vision
The National Music Centre, opening in February 2027, will be a vibrant and innovative hub celebrating music, creativity, and connection in the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand’s capital city.
The National Music Centre is a landmark collaboration between the Wellington City Council, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra—Te Tira Pūoro o Aotearoa and Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī.
It will be anchored by the refurbished Te Whare Whakarauika Wellington Town Hall, creating a shared vision for world-class music education and performance in the heart of Wellington.
Inside, state-of-the-art rehearsal and recording studios will sit alongside the carefully restored Adam Auditorium and Lloyd Morrison Theatre, creating spaces where learning and performance meet.
The National Music Centre will combine the talent of young musicians in Te Kōkī with the professional mastery of the NZSO, and will enable outstanding education and professional development opportunities for the next generation of students.
