Maternal and fetal outcomes following water immersion for labour and birth

A prospective audit of the use of water immersion for labour and birth was initiated on opening of a new tertiary maternity unit. The purpose was to explore usage and outcomes for woman and babies where water was used during labour or birth, to determine compliance with the unit policy and to inform ongoing policy development and in-service education. There is now over five years of data collected which represents the largest sample of data on water immersion in labour and birth in a NZ District Health Board (DHB) region
