Doctoral Induction: Getting off to the best start
Mandatory induction for new doctoral students—discover 2026 sessions and reserve your spot today!
All doctoral students at Victoria University of Wellington must attend the Faculty of Graduate Research (FGR) induction programme for new doctoral candidates.
In this session, we’ll cover essential elements for a successful PhD journey, key requirements, policies, and expectations. You will pick up vital information and useful tips and strategies, and it’s also a great opportunity to network with fellow new doctoral candidates.
Doctoral students are encouraged to attend an Induction session within the first 6 months of their doctoral candidature. You must be enrolled in your PhD at the time you attend a session. For those enrolling in a professional doctorate (DMA, EdD, DHlth, DMid and DNurs) it is advisable that they attend an induction session after they have completed their coursework and are starting part 2 of their doctorate.
International doctoral students must also attend and register separately for the International Orientation Programme run by the International Student Experience team.
