Group exercise programme

Our group exercise programme has a wide range of classes to choose from—see what’s on offer and view the timetable.

University Recreation offers classes in Pump, Pilates, Yoga, Zumba, HIIT boxing, Spin, HIIT, and our challenging small-group 3XF workouts. Most group classes are held in the Dance Room, so you get to work out while enjoying a view over the city.

Timetable

The summer 2025/2026 timetable runs until Sunday 22 February 2026. The Trimester 1, 2026 timetable runs from Monday 23 February to Sunday 5 July 2026. Please note we will operate our off-peak reduced timetable from Monday 1 June 2026 to Sunday 5 July 2026.

All group classes run for 50 minutes, except for HIIT and Spin, which are 45 minutes.

Class descriptions

Spin

Spin is a 45-minute indoor cycling class focusing on strength, speed, and endurance. It is a challenging and fun cardio workout without the impact. Come along to boost your mood, fitness, and overall energy levels. Spin30 provides an express 30-minute class option.

Meditation

Experience deep relaxation and inner calm in our 50-minute meditation session accompanied by the soothing sounds of live harp music. The class begins with 25 minutes of silent sitting, followed by an alternative meditative practice such as progressive muscle relaxation or reflective journaling. We conclude with a grounding, embodied closing to help you leave feeling centred, refreshed, and ready to move through your day with clarity and ease.

Yoga

Combines stretching, breathing, balance, strength and relaxation moves. It helps tone muscles, eliminate tension, and ease chronic pain.

Slow flow yoga

A slower-paced yoga class that combines stretching, breathing, balance, strength, and relaxation moves.

Pilates

Based on a series of exercises that build core strength, improving the way your body looks, feels, and functions.

Barre

The perfect blend of ballet inspired movements, Pilates and functional body training particularly for the lower body.

Pump

A weight-lifting class to tone, burn fat and strengthen muscles. Load your bar to suit your strength.

Strongfit

Combines the best of martial arts, plyometrics, and bodyweight training and will help you reach your fitness goals faster. The music and moves sync in a motivating way that makes the workout both challenging and fun.

HIIT

A 45-minute high-intensity workout designed to improve your overall fitness, strength and mobility. The combination of functional movements with cardio will leave you feeling fitter and stronger to complete daily activities. HIIT30 provides an express 30-minute class option.

Dance Party

Get ready to turn up the energy! This dance-based workout is all about moving to the beat, breaking a sweat, and having a blast. You’ll learn fun, easy-to-follow dance moves in an inclusive, judgment-free space—no experience needed, just bring your vibe and your smile.

Boxfit

Learn the fundamentals of boxing while getting a full-body workout. The first half of class focuses on technique, movement, and combo practice, then we hit the pads for a high-energy boxing session that builds strength, speed, and confidence. Walk out feeling strong, energised, and ready for more.
