Description

Studio Pacific Architecture wish to support a student undertaking their first year of study at Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design.


History

Studio Pacific Architecture have partnered with Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design, Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, to offer an annual scholarship intended to encourage the take up of design disciplines including architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture and design by gifted students in their first year of study and who may need some support to enable their first year of study.


Who is eligible?

  • Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • Applicants must be intending to enroll in a full time first year course in the Victoria University of Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design

Selection criteria

  • The main criteria for assessment will be the potential of the applicant to succeed in a design discipline as demonstrated by their academic record and the portfolio submitted as part of the applicant’s enrolment.
  • Applicants will be assessed on the basis of financial need as a secondary consideration
  • Māori and Pasifika applicants are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Preference will be given to any applicants who are competent in a second language

Application process

A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Scholarship specific documentation

  • Applicants need to submit a personal statement outlining how they meet the criteria for the scholarship
  • Applicants will need to complete the financial information part of the application
  • Applicants must submit a current CV
  • Applicants must request an academic reference, via the online application.
  • Applicants must submit a portfolio of art and/or design work of less than 8 pages A4 or A3 in pdf format

Selection process

The panel will comprise of the Postgraduate Research Director & Industrial Liaison Leader and the first year Faculty Coordinator or equal, in conjunction with other relevant members of academic staff and representatives from Studio Pacific Architecture. Applicants may be invited to interview.

All applicants (successful or not) will be notified by Friday 24 November 2023.


Additional information

  • Recipients are expected to write of letter of thanks to the donor within one month of receiving the award
  • Recipients may be asked to present a very short summary of their project work to the donor
  • Recipients may be invited to apply for direct intern positions with the donor

Regulations and conditions

  1. A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4:30pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
  2. All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the recipient being fully enrolled in a full-year programme (full-time will be at the level of points considered by Studylink as full-time) within the stipulated criteria and tenure of the scholarship. No payment of the Scholarship will be made until this condition is met.
  3. The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
  4. The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
  5. Should the recipient withdraw from Victoria University of Wellington during the tenure of this scholarship or fail to achieve a satisfactory progress, partial repayment of the Scholarship will normally be expected. Recipients must advise the Scholarships Office if they intend to withdraw.
  6. Recipients are expected to act as Ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and participate in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
  7. At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the application of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship may be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Scholarship.
