Description

The purpose of the Te Amaru–Disability Services Access Awards is to provide financial assistance to students with disabilities that impact on their income or financial costs. They are intended to support disabled students who have made good academic progress and have one or more years left to complete their study.

Who is eligible?

These awards are available to domestic students who are enrolled for undergraduate or postgraduate study at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington, and are enrolled at the University in the following year. Applicants must be able to provide supporting documentation of their disability if they are not currently registered with Te Amaru–Disability Services. Preference will be given to those experiencing financial hardship.

Selection criteria

  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate programme, and are fully enrolled at the University in the following year
  • Applicants must have demonstrated satisfactory academic progress over at least one trimester
  • Applicants must show strong commitment to gaining an University qualification

Application process

A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Scholarship specific documentation

  • Supporting documentation of disability, if not currently registered with Te Amaru–Disability Services
  • Proof of income i.e. bank statement, Studylink or WINZ documentation
  • Proof of living expenses i.e. screenshot overview of all bank account balances for the current month

Selection process

The successful recipients will be selected by a selection panel comprising of staff from Te Amaru–Disability Services and Student Finance to assess applications.

Regulations and conditions

  1. A completed online application, including supporting documentation, must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date.
  2. All offers of the Awards will be conditional upon the recipient being enrolled at the University with one year or more to complete their course of study.
  3. The Award cannot be deferred to a later year.
  4. The Award may be held in conjunction with other scholarships.
  5. Recipients may be required to complete a short questionnaire to assist in evaluating the usefulness of the Award in completing their academic programme.
  6. At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the application of the terms and conditions of the Award may be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Award.
